OBSESSION: exploring surrealism after a suppressed time

Material: Acrylic on canvas, metal nails, twine, clay

Size: 18' x 24'

My work is about experiencing and reflecting on the negative messages/news/thoughts during the epidemic, the angst, the isolation and loneliness, or the pain of learning about what other people went through, and the negative impacts on my personal life that came with it(overeating, the creature next to the one has nails on it, the shape is like a tongue). The figurative and representational aspects of these things are more subconscious for me, and these strange and abnormal images are not so much representations of specific things as they do but show the symbolism of "pain" and being "disturbed and powerlessness" in my deep conscious.

The content about the work is more of a response to that time, like a pass on, what that time did to me, what I thought, and what I'm doing now with my works. Surrounded and suppressed by negativity like a mesh, I wanted to convey a state of suffocation or overwhelming in the picture, squeezing and filling the space.

There is something monumental and rewarding for me about uncontrollable emotions and visualizing them later to complete a body of work about an important experience.
